Some people may be confused about two terms, tennis shoes and sneakers. Sneakers are a generic term for athletic shoes; while tennis shoes are for playing tennis. Is it exactly the difference?
Tennis shoes are adapted with a wide and low rubber sole for rapid lateral movements and changes of direction. You know tennis game needs lots of stops and starts, lateral movement and quick stops. So tennis shoes are designed to offer durability and flexibility to effectively prevent rolled ankles. They were lightweight and flexible.
Sneaker is a term referred to sports shoes. Shoe makers make sport shoes specific for all sports, with treads and structure designed for that particular sport. Strictly tennis shoe is kind of sneakers. Very generally, sneakers are canvas shoes with a rubber sole or with synthetic material on top. In other words, all tennis shoes are sneakers but not all sneakers are tennis shoes.
